Michelle
(to Carmen): You'll
never have to worry about me letting your son sleep on the floor.
Danny
(to Michelle): Under
this roof, family is everything. This is your family now, the sooner you
get that into your thick head, the better off you're gonna be.
Michelle:
I'm getting this feeling
like the Santos' are like a throwback into another time and another
world where blood is thicker than water rules.
Danny:
It does, Michelle. It
does.
Michelle
(reading her Pre-Cana questionniare): What
I expect to bring to a marriage is a lifetime of love, support, sharing
an open mind and an open heart.
Danny
(reading his Pre-Cana questionnaire): My
hope is that I can bring to a marriage everything that I am, not hold
anything back, and that I can share all my hopes and dreams and offer my
wife complete love with no conditions…
Michelle:
You really surprised me.
Danny:
Oh yeah? How so?
Michelle:
I don't know, whatever you
said in your response, I didn't know.
Danny:
Didn't know what,
Michelle? That I have a heart? That you're not the only one?
Michelle:
No… I was just trying to
tell you…
Danny:
That I want the same thing
that you do? That I want, what basically everybody wants?
Danny:
I know that you gave up a
lot by doing this, I do.
Michelle:
I'm just saying that I
didn't realize how much you gave up until now, so I'm sorry.
Danny:
Well, what kind of choice
did I have? It was marry you or…
Michelle:
Kill me.
Danny:
But you're safe now, and
that's what matters. And I promise you that no one will touch you as
long as you remain my wife.
Michelle:
When we were talking to
Father Tomas, I realized that we want the same things out of life.
Danny:
Yeah, like everybody does.
Michelle:
I know, I just never…
Danny:
What, you never thought
that I wanted those things?
Michelle:
Yeah… when we were at
Father Tomas' office I saw somebody that I actually liked and I realized
that we're not so different, you know, we have similar dreams.
Michelle
(to Danny): We
might have to share a bed to make this marriage look real, but you damn
well better stay on your side of it!
Michelle:
You may look different and
you may act different, but in your heart, you are exactly the same as
your brother!
Danny:
You're comparing me to my
brother? How's that, Michelle?
Michelle:
Think about it.
Danny:
No, you think about it. If
I were anything like my brother, we wouldn't be having this conversation
right now, you'd be dead!
Danny:
Think about it this way,
Michelle… you're not losing a boyfriend, you're gaining sixty more
years to your life. Why don't you think about that when you dance at our
wedding? Maybe that'll put a smile on your face.
Danny
(to Michelle): I
have a little business that I should've taken care of a long time ago.
Let's go! Get crackin', let's get this wedding in gear. And while you're
at it, learn some more Spanish!
Danny
(to himself): You
can't let her get to you, you can't.
Danny:
What are we doing here,
Michelle? Taking some trip down memory lane?
Michelle:
No, this is where it has
to be.
Danny:
What?
Michelle:
If I'm gonna convince
Jesse that I don't love him anymore, then he has to find us here, in
bed.
Danny:
You know, Michelle. It's
one thing to say that you're gonna do this. But it's another thing
entirely to actually go through with it. Can you? Can you go through
with this?
Michelle
(to Danny): Does
that answer your question?
Danny
(to Michelle): Do
you know how beautiful you are?
Michelle:
I was crazy to think that
I could break Jesse's heart like this, I can't just rip it out.
Danny:
Well, it sure beats a
bullet, don't you think?
Michelle:
I don't think you mean
that. I know you're not like the rest of your family, Danny.
Danny:
Michelle, you know, I
didn't say that I'd be the one to do it.
Danny:
If you could just stop
seeing me as your enemy and, come on, let me try to make you feel
better.
Michelle:
The way a man makes a
woman feel better, you mean the way a husband makes a wife feel better?
Michelle:
Show's over, put your
clothes back on. And you know what? Stay the hell away from me.
Danny:
Don't you ever talk to me
like that again.
Michelle:
Why? Because I'm your
wife?
Danny:
Yeah, because you are my
wife, Michelle.
Michelle:
Well before you beat me
with a club and drag me off to a cave, why don't you clear something up
for me.
Danny:
What's that?
Michelle:
What happens now? Jesse's
gone, he's not coming back.
Danny:
Yeah, what do you mean?
Michelle:
So, tonight, today,
tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, where do we go from here?
Danny:
We're having the wedding.
Just like we planned.
Michelle:
And then what?
Danny:
What?
Michelle:
Am I supposed to fall in
love with you? Learn to love you?
Michelle
(to Danny): Jesse
told me how you feel about me, Danny. And this marriage is not about you
protecting me or saving anybody else. This is about you. You wanting
something that you are never going to have.
Danny:
You know, if you spend all
your time trying to get away from me and my family, you're just gonna
make your life a living hell.
Michelle:
No, that's your job.
Danny:
You're acting like a
spoiled brat, Michelle.
Michelle:
Fine, then divorce me.
Danny:
My grandparents had an
arranged marriage, and…
Michelle:
And what? They lived
happily ever after?
Danny:
Yeah, they did. As a
matter of fact, they did.
Michelle:
Well good for them!
Danny:
No, good for us! If my
grandparents never laid eyes on each other before they were married and
they ended up happy? Then maybe we can too!
Michelle:
Is that another guide in
the Santos Family Guide to Living? If you don't kill the girl, marry
her, maybe then she'll love you?
Danny:
Maybe if you stopped
fighting me long enough to give it a chance, yeah.
Michelle:
If you were the last man
on earth, I wouldn't love you. This is you wanting me to feel something
for you, the way you feel about me.
Danny:
You know what? You don’t
know how I feel.
Michelle:
You know what? I wish I
never met your brother because none of this would've happened if I
hadn't; we would all be safe.
Danny:
No, if you hadn't have
killed my brother, none of this would've happened.
Michelle
(to herself): I
will go through your family ritual, and I'll do it by starting with this
big wedding, and I'm gonna get so deep inside La Familia, that I'll find
out all your weaknesses and where all your skeletons are buried, and as
God as my witness, I will bring this family down. I will get my life
back.
Danny
(to Carmen): What's
this big betrayal supposed to look like, huh? Is Michelle gonna do some
kind of Martha Stewart makeover on the house when the wedding's over?
Carmen:
Morning Michelle, I was
just leaving.
Michelle:
Well, don't leave on
account of me.
Carmen:
Don't flatter yourself.
Michelle:
I've decided to commit
myself.
Danny:
To what?
Michelle:
To you. I really wanna
make this work with you.
Michelle
(to Danny): I
always thought that marriages were like in the movies, you know? When
you, you meet, you fall in love, you get engaged, you get married,
lights go down, music comes up, happily ever after.
Michelle:
This is my life now, and I
have to deal with it. And I can either make myself miserable, or I can
make the best of it.
Danny:
You make it sound like
you're condemned to a life of breaking rocks or something.
Michelle
(to Danny): So
I think what I just need to do is get to know you. I think maybe what we
need is a courtship. A date. Hi, I'm Michelle Bauer, I'm your wife.
Michelle:
So, tell me about
yourself, Daniel Santos, what do you like to do? And forget the obvious
because I never kiss a man on the first date.
Danny:
Well, I think it's a
little late for that, don't you?
Danny:
Look, I don't talk about
my family, ever, ok?
Michelle:
Woo, sorry. I thought we
were just getting to know each other, you know, talking?
Danny:
Well, maybe you shouldn't
talk so much.
Danny:
Why do you insist on
telling your family in person?
Michelle:
You make it sound like
it's odd.
Danny:
You couldn't just call
them?
Michelle:
Well that wouldn't be
nice.
Danny:
But you have to admit,
that I'm walking into the lion's den here, I know how your people feel
about me.
Michelle:
Yeah, you're right, they
don't like you. But your family doesn’t like me, so we have another
fair's fair here.
Michelle
(to Danny): Can
you forget about your family for just one minute? Did it ever occur to
you that maybe I don't hate you so much? Maybe I like you a little bit?
Michelle:
I may say a lot of things
out of anger or whatever, but the bottom line is that I know what you
did for me. I know that you risked everything to save my life. I know
that. I'm just trying to tell you that the Danny that I know isn't like
the jerks that hang out at the compound. And for right now, that's gonna
be good enough for me. Maybe in time it'll be more. But that's the whole
package, take it or leave it.
Danny:
Let's go play "Meet
The In-Laws".
Michelle:
Oh, yeah, Jesse drew that
a while ago. It's all right I guess.
Danny:
No, it isn't.
Michelle:
What?
Danny:
He had a beautiful subject
and he didn't do it justice. Not at all.
Danny
(to Michelle): I
guess I'll head downstairs, check out the coliseum; find out the score
between the Christians and the Lions.
Danny:
You said that he was the
love of your life.
Michelle:
Haven't you ever said
anything like that? Anything wildly romantic?
Danny:
No.
Danny
(to Michelle): We
are about to take vows, Michelle, before God. Vows that pledge us to
each other, that pledge a commitment that doesn't have anything to do
with our families. And, when you say you're going the distance, I, uh, I
don't know. Does that mean that you're ready to accept me as your
husband? As your real husband?
Michelle
(to Danny): What
you did by marrying me was wonderful, it was generous. It was more than
generous, you saved my life. I'm really extremely grateful for that.
But, this is really hard to talk about. It's not like I'm that
experienced, you know, Jesse was my first boyfriend. I just need you to
be patient with me.
Danny
(to Michelle): The
institution of marriage is very important to me, I want mine to work.
And you are not the only one who has needs. I need, I need to feel
married to you, in, well, in every way.
Danny
(to Michelle): You
think I don't understand how difficult this is for you, I do, you're
wrong, I do. I know that you didn’t sign up for me. I know I'm not the
man of your dreams, I know that. But, I am… I'm a man. And, uh, when
we, when you and I go into our room at night, you know I can't just turn
myself into some automaton with no feelings and no desires… I can't do
that. You know, you… you take a shower… and you, you comb your
hair… you, you rub lotion into your arms… in your shoulders… and
you slip into a nightgown. And I'm, I'm sitting in bed pretending to
read or to listen to music or whatever, but that's not what I'm doing,
I'm, I'm watching you. I'm trying not to, but I am… I do… I am a
man. And when you climb into bed with me, beside me, never touching,
never touching, I lie there, awake, staring into the dark, aware of
everything that you're doing… of how you breathe… of the rustle of
the sheets… and it takes every ounce of my being to not wanna reach
out to you. I care about you… I desire you… I want to reach out to
you.
Ray:
So, where have you been
keeping this mystery woman? And how come I didn't get a chance to meet
her before the wedding?
Danny:
Well, it happened kindof
fast. You know, we met just after Mick died and, one thing led to
another, I don't know, you know when it's right it's right, and
Michelle's right, you'll see… you'll understand when you see her…
Danny
(to Michelle): You
look beautiful…
Danny:
Are you nervous?
Michelle:
I feel like I'm gonna
faint.
Danny:
Just look at me, you'll be
fine.
Danny:
Well, you know, sometimes
people meet each other under very unusual circumstances… we did. Who
knows why God puts a particular person into your life. I certainly
didn't expect to meet someone like you and I know you didn't plan on
meeting a guy like me. But by divine providence or fate or just plain
luck, we were thrown together. And I knew, I knew that you were a
treasure to be cherished, and to be revered. Michelle, I, I promise to
do everything in my power to keep you safe and to make you happy. And
what we have between us will grow… with you as my wife, and I as your
husband.
Michelle:
Daniel, from now on I put
my life, my fate, into your hands.
Danny:
Amen.
Danny:
Michelle, I offer you this
ring as a symbol of my vow. With all that I am, and all that I have, I
will honor you in the name of God.
Michelle:
Daniel, I offer you this
ring as a symbol of my vow. With all that I am, and all that I have, I
will honor you in the name of God.
Photographer:
Now, hold hands. No no,
not like that, like this.
Danny:
I guess we should've
skipped Psych and taken Wedding Reception 101.
Photographer:
Now, I want you to look
into each other's eyes and smile your secret smile.
Michelle:
Our secret smile?
Michelle:
I want to thank you for
saving my vows, I mean the stuff about being so devoted and giving of
yourself, it was really good.
Danny:
You're welcome, I meant
every word.
Rick:
This all happened so fast,
I just didn't think it was real. But today I saw the one thing that I
always imagined when I thought about my sister's wedding and that was
her smile. Michelle, may that beautiful smile always light up your
husband's life like it lit up this room today. Would you all please join
me in a toast… to Mr. and Mrs. Santos…
Danny:
You seemed a little bit in
a rush to get out of there.
Michelle:
Well, I hope I wasn't
rude.
Danny:
No, no, no, not at all,
it's ok. You were perfect. You are perfect.
Danny
(to Michelle): Are
you sure?
Michelle:
I'm sorry, I'm just, I'm
really tense, this day…
Danny:
Ok, it's ok, it's ok, I
understand, it's ok.
Michelle:
You do?
Danny:
Yeah, I mean, this is,
this is a big night, and I don't want to make you go too fast, at all.
Michelle:
Thank you.
Danny:
Yeah, look, this is
nothing to be taken casually. I know this is a big deal for you; it is
for me too.
Danny
(to Michelle): I
won't do anything to rush you. We have all the time in the world. This
is just the beginning for us, as husband and wife.
Danny:
You thought that you hated
me, I know. But then you realized that we want the same things; that our
dreams are pretty much the same.
Michelle:
Danny..
Danny:
Wait, let me finish, let
me finish. You know, I thought, I was starting to think that we were not
gonna make it. That together, there was no way that we were gonna have
the kind of marriage we both wanted, with us at each other's throats all
the time. I figured we were just doomed, you know, doomed to go through
the motions for the rest of our lives. But today, today something
changed. We said our vows, I don't know, I saw something different in
you. I felt it. I think you did too. And when we kissed, you kissed me
back. It was real. And I thought, well maybe we're gonna be ok. You
know, maybe things are gonna work out. Maybe our dreams can really come
true.
Danny:
Am I wrong about today?
Michelle:
No, no…
Danny:
I don't get it, I mean,
what? Is the thought of being with me that repulsive?
Danny:
I'm sorry, ok? Forget it.
Look, I'm gonna sleep on the floor. I mean, God knows I'm used to it,
so, forget it…
Michelle:
You're wrong about what
happened here.
Danny:
I am wrong, you're right,
I'm wrong. I was very wrong to think that you care about me, but it's
ok.
Michelle:
I do care about you!
Agent
Conklin: Carmen
is the present, Danny is the future. We take them both down, we cut off
the head of the family.
Michelle:
Why can't it just be
Carmen's head?
Danny
(to Michelle): I
won't let anything happen to you. I'm sorry. You are my wife, and I will
protect you with my life.
Carmen:
I didn't want to argue
with you in front of our family lawyer, but it's clear to me things
started happening the day you brought Michelle Bauer into our home.
Danny:
Her name is Michelle
Santos.
Carmen:
Even worse.
Danny:
You mean set her up.
Carmen:
It won't be a set up
unless the information gets somewhere, like the FBI. If it doesn't, then
we'll know that Michelle is fit to be a true Santos.
Danny:
Mama. Over my dead body.
You will do nothing against my wife. Do you understand me? If you do,
you will lose the only son you have left.
Danny:
Mother, Michelle is my
wife. We were married in front of you and God. What we have is sacred,
and I demand that you respect that.
Carmen:
You demand?
Danny:
We may live under your
roof, but this is our home too. And I will not have anyone in my home
trying to sabotage my wife or my marriage, is that clear?
Carmen:
It's clear to me that
Michelle has affected your judgment.
Danny:
No, Mama, no. I am as
loyal to you as I ever was. I understand the importance of family. I am
not blinded by love, but I'm not heartless either.
Danny:
Mrs. Silva is a client,
Michelle.
Michelle:
What does that mean!?
Danny:
What does… that means
that she and her husband own a little store on the Hudson, and it's in a
not so nice neighborhood, they've been having break-ins, we've been
protecting them. She paid for that debt with the money that you gave
her, Michelle, our money! She made fool out of us! You made a fool out
of me!
Danny:
I'm trying to find out who
you are… who I'm married to!
Michelle:
Me!! Michelle Bauer
Santos! I'm your wife!!
Danny:
What am I supposed to
think, huh?
Michelle:
You're supposed to believe
me. You're supposed to remember our wedding day and our vows, to trust
each other. Will you just remember the way that we looked at each other
and the way that we kissed? I felt something, I know you did.
Danny:
Michelle…
Michelle:
You think that I would
just betray that feeling, that I would throw it away? Why would I do
something like that? We have something. You know that we do, and I know
I tried to deny it for a very long time, but it's there and it's this…
chemistry… and it's not like anything I've ever felt before. Can we
please stop this? Can we please just go home?
Michelle:
Well, maybe it's not the
life that I would've chosen, but I am alive, you know, and it's because
of you.
Danny:
So, you're grateful.
Michelle:
What I'm feeling is more
than gratitude. Do you honestly think that I would do anything to hurt
you?
Danny:
I don't know. I don't
know. I wanna trust you.
Michelle:
I wanna trust you, too.
Danny:
You don't want me.
Michelle:
No, I do.
Danny:
Stop, no, you're
pretending that you do. Stop, don't lie to me, ok? Stop lying to me.
Don't lie to me anymore. This is, I'm sorry, this is me. It's my fault,
it's me. We almost did something that, that you really don't want to do,
and it's turning me into something that I swore, I swore that I never
would become.
Danny:
Ours was not an arranged
marriage; we were forced together by circumstance. I knew that she
didn't love me; she didn't even like me, so…
Abuela:
That has changed, I
promise you.
Danny:
I don't know. I don't
know.
Abuela:
And what do you think? How
do you feel toward her?
Danny:
Me? I have mixed feelings.
Abuela:
Don't lie to your
grandmother. You are in love with this girl.
Danny:
I wish I wasn't. I wish I
didn't… but you're right. I'm in love with her. I love her.
Danny
(to Carmen): I
set her up, Mother, just like you asked me to, to prove that you're
wrong about her. And it's all going down right now. Michelle's either
gonna sink or swim, and I'm betting that she swims.
Michelle:
He said he loved me. I
heard him tell his grandmother that he loved me. And there's no way that
he could've known that I was listening, so I know that he meant it. And
when I heard that, I couldn't do it. Do you understand now? I couldn't
go through with it, I couldn't betray him like that. I'm telling you,
Drew, in that moment, he was different.
Drew:
Or maybe you're just
falling in love with your husband.
Carmen:
How can you trust anything
that girl has ever said, or the way she's looked at you? How can you
believe any kind, loving words she's ever spoken? How do you know for
sure that it isn't all a lie?
Danny:
I know her.
Danny:
You left this up to me,
and I thank you for that.
Carmen:
Daniel, you will be head
of this family one day. You must protect it. It's all we have.
Danny:
I brought Michelle into
this house, into this family. I created it, and I, uh… I'll put an end
to it.
